Tomorrow the Supreme Court will hear the petition of teenage Malayalam star Priya Prakash Varrier against a First Information Report (FIR) that she has submitted to her and the director of his next film tomorrow. The trial court agreed to hear the case after his lawyer asked Haris for urgent appeal.

In her petition, she stated that complaints had been lodged against her in Telangana and Maharashtra. She said that the controversy and the FIR’s are about the lyrics of the song Manikya Malaraya Poovi, a traditional Islamic song or song Mappila, from the Malabar region in the north of Kerala.

“The song describes and praises the love between the Prophet Muhammad and his first wife Khadeeiah and this was misunderstood by the prosecutors,” said Ms. Varrier in her petition.

The actor’s lawyer, Harris Beeran, said the song had been there for four decades and that there were no complaints in Kerala, but an FIR was filed in Andhra Pradesh and four complaints in Maharashtra.

The clips of Manikya Malaraya Poovi with flashy undergraduate and a flying kiss indicate to her co-actor have become viral and his feed for countless memes online.

A group of young men in Hyderabad filed a lawsuit against filmmakers who claimed that the lyrics of the popular song Oru Adaar Love hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims.

An Islamic seminary based in Hyderabad gave a fatwa to the song and said the government had to remove it because it damaged the religious feelings of Muslims.

A technical student approached the police and claimed that the song made an “objectionable” reference to the wife of the Prophet Muhammad. One case was recorded last week for “deliberate and malicious acts aimed at violating the religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs”.

Another complaint was filed by a businessman, Zaheer Ali Khan, who demanded that the text should be changed or that song is removed from the film.
