Padmavati’s new song, ‘Ek Dil Ek Jaan’, continues the relationship between Shahid Kapoor’s Maharawal Ratan Singh and Deepika Padukone’s Rani Padmini. The song is an ode to their wedding, characterized by short but impressive moments of mischief, passion, and fear.
When you see Kapoor and Padukone playing man and woman on the screen, you return to Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani, where Ranveer Singh played the lover of the latter. However, Kapoor does as much work, if not better, by playing the hypnotized lover, who comes across in this song. Needless to say, it also shows the love of director Sanjay Leela Bhansali for gulaal, lights and wet eyes.
The soothing voice of singer Shivam Pathak creates the right atmosphere for the thriving love story of both characters. His high tones were kept for the end of the song, which is when Kapoor prepares to go to war. This is why the drama reaches its peak at the end of the song, while the protagonists go hand in hand, probably saying goodbye to the approaching battle.
Bhansali, true to form, is again at the top of his art, his music only makes his film bigger with each song. From extensive costumes with rich mirrors to jharokhas from Rajasthan, the director’s glorious vision is still central as characters appreciate it.
The creators also released a new poster with Alauddin Khilji of Ranveer Singh. When he plays the antagonist in the magnum opus, Singh sees every inch of a wild conqueror in the poster.
