LUCKNOW: In a bizarre incident, a man from Hardoi UP snapped a snake’s head and chewed it before he spits it. The man, Sonelal, claimed he was doing it for revenge while the snake had bitten him.
He fell unconscious and was transferred to a community health center. The doctor could not find any bite marks on him.
State-run ambulance service 108 at the Moghaganj Community Health Center (CHC) received a phone call Saturday to the village of Shuklapur Bhagar where a farmer was unconscious. Sonelal was taken to the CSC at 7 pm, where the emergency doctor Dr. Mahendra Verma and pharmacist Hitesh Kumar were present. “His neighbors Ram Sewak and Ram Swaroop claimed the Sonelal was bitten by a snake, so we went looking for biting spores, but we did not find one,” Hitesh said.
“His cousin Nanhe said that Sonelal was only when the incident occurred, but someone told him that a snake bit him, we treated emergency medications and we kept him under observation,” Hitesh told TOI.
Sonelal regained consciousness at 22.00 and was asked to work out the order of the events. “He claimed he was grazing his cattle when a snake bit him,” he said he had caught the snake angry and bit his head before he spat it, “said the pharmacist.
“It seems that the snake has not at all bitten him in. We did not find a snake bite mark on his body, it became unconscious because of the consumption of the snake body that possibly poison under the assumption that it was a poisonous snake,” said Dr. Verma.
Sonelal was addicted to drugs, the locals say
When the news about the incident spread, CH. Mukesh Gupta, a local shopkeeper, said: “I could not believe my ears … I was wondering how someone could bite a snake, I saw pictures of Sonelal and the snake taken by the ambulance staff.”
Secretary, State of the Mental Health Society, Dr. SC Tewari said that the behavior of the man seems abnormal. “It is not a normal human reaction, someone must be extremely aggressive or disturbed to behave in this way,” he said.
